| Treat Students Like Your Own Children – Ketu North MCE Appeals to Dzodze-Penyi SHS Teachers |
The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of Ketu North, Hon. Rev. Martin Amenaki, has called on teachers at Dzodze-Penyi Senior High School (DZOSSEC) to always put the welfare of students first and relate to them as they would their own children.
He made this call during a discussion on Fafaa 100.3 FM with Mr. Emmanuel Ketaman Evortepe, Executive President of the Duamenefa Foundation and Chief Executive Officer of the radio station. The discussion came in the wake of allegations involving sexual misconduct against the headmaster and some teachers of the school.
Hon. Rev. Amenaki stated that the Ghana Education Service (GES) has taken up the matter and is currently conducting investigations. He stressed that he is awaiting the official findings and urged parents, teachers, students, and the general public to remain calm and allow the investigation to follow due process.
According to him, the situation should not be allowed to create fear, panic, or disorder within the school or the wider community. He reassured parents that students of Dzodze-Penyi SHS are safe and cautioned the public against tagging the school as problematic, noting that authorities are committed to resolving any issues that arise.
The MCE explained that once investigations are concluded, appropriate actions will be taken if the allegations are confirmed. However, if they are proven untrue, the school’s name and integrity will be fully restored. He emphasized that every necessary step will be taken to protect the school’s reputation and ensure its continuous development.
Hon. Rev. Amenaki further disclosed that he has over 23 years of experience as a professional teacher and is also an old student of Dzodze-Penyi SHS. For this reason, he said neither he nor the municipal leadership would sit back and allow the school to deteriorate. He added that he has personally visited the school twice since the issue surfaced and confirmed that teaching and learning are ongoing without disruption.
He also revealed that some teachers had earlier expressed concern after their names were mentioned during a radio discussion linked to the Duamenefa Foundation’s investigations. He said he reassured them that there was no malicious intent behind mentioning their names and encouraged them to remain calm, focused, and committed to their duties.
Speaking on the matter, Mr. Emmanuel Ketaman Evortepe clarified that the mention of teachers’ names on air was not intended to malign anyone. He explained that it was simply to inform parents and the public of the teachers posted to the school, making it easier for parents to identify and reach out to them when necessary.
The MCE noted that a teacher’s greatest satisfaction comes from seeing students excel academically. He therefore urged teachers to continue mentoring, guiding, and safeguarding students as they would their own children.
He also advised students, especially female students, to remain disciplined, focus on their education, and avoid situations that could distract them or expose them to harm amid the ongoing discussions.
Hon. Rev. Amenaki concluded by reaffirming the commitment of the Ketu North Municipal Assembly and all relevant stakeholders to maintaining Dzodze-Penyi SHS as a safe, disciplined, and respected educational institution.
