Bekwai Court Jails Houseboy 7 Years for Acid Attack Over Tile-Cleaning Dispute
The Bekwai Circuit Court has sentenced 27-year-old houseboy Ernest Agyei to 84 months’ imprisonment with hard labour for pouring acid on Benjamin Asante, a former student of Yamfo Anglican Secondary School, during a tile-cleaning dispute on December 22, 2024.
Ernest Agyei, the accused, reportedly became offended after an argument with another worker when Benjamin Asante refused to intervene, leading to the attack that left him hospitalized for three months.
The court rejected the accused’s claim that the act was accidental and he was unaware that the substance he poured on the victim was acid, ordering him to pay 500 penalty units (GHC 6,000) in compensation.
